Archbishop Concludes 40-Day Prayer Vigil
Archbishop Allen Vigneron of the Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit and an estimated 450 people prayed the Rosary on the next-to-last day of a 40-day prayer vigil outside the Women's Clinic in Clarkston. Although the morning was cold and blustery, the huge turnout was a fitting conclusion to a very successful vigil during which individuals and groups prayed daily between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. from September 29 through October 31.
The vigil was successful in no small part to the efforts of NORTL treasurer Debbie Riccardo and her husband Peter Riccardo, the current district deputy and a past Grand Knight of K of C Council 5436. The Riccardo's quickly deflect any accolades, pointing to the contributions of many people, but their work organizing the kick-off event, recruiting prayers to fill 480 hours of prayer time, and taking prayer shifts to fill gaps in the schedule is greatly appreciated.

Italian Dinner Fund-Raiser October 2
Our fourth annual all-you-can eat Italian Dinner on Saturday, October 2 was a smashing success, raising nearly $1,000 for local prolife activities. The dinner, held at the K of C Hall on Maybee Road in Clarkston, drew an estimated 150 people between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Many thanks to everyone who attended, the volunteers who cooked the meal, decorated and cleaned the hall, and Pope John XXIII Council 5436 for allowing us to use their hall. The monies raised support local events such as our annual springtime Prolife Student Oratory Contest and on-going state initiatives such as the Right to Life of Michigan Educational Fund.

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday -- January 23, 2011
January marks the 38th year of legalized abortion-on-demand in our nation. We encourage everyone to mourn the loss of innocent life and peacefully protest the 1973 Supreme Court decisions in "Roe" and "Doe" that overturned state laws prohibiting abortion. We implore pastors and rabbis to use this sad anniversary as a "teachable moment" about the meaning and sancity of human life. Educational resources such as PowerPoint presentations, bulletin inserts, and prayers are available for download by clicking on the SOHL Sunday logo on this page.

Clarkston Life Chain on October 3
An estimated 170 prolifers from North Oakland County RTL affiliate and around our area stood in the first Clarkston "life chain" on Respect Life Sunday, October 3 at the abortion center on Sashabaw Road. The peaceful, prayerful protest took on a new signficance for Independence Township residents when the abortion center relocated from Waterford earlier this year.
The Clarkston Press interviewed NORTL treasurer Debbie Riccardo for a full-length story. "We're a part of a national campaign of peaceful vigil, prayer, and fasting, to turn away from the culture of death and bring an end to abortion," Debbie told reporter Phil Custudio. "We pray God opens their hearts."
"I like it, it's great to be here," said Jeremy Schupbach, 14, a member of Everest's School for Life Club. "It's really cool. Lots of cars are honking. A public school bus honked. I think we're doing good."
